PD Puppets @ Toy Library

“Using Puppets to Enrich Social-Emotional Learning in Libraries, Preschool, and Kindergarten Classrooms”

Saturday, February 3rd 2:00-4:00 pm @ Toy Library, 1663 Main Street, West Barnstable (back of First Lutheran Church) Come early or stay afterwards to tour the Toy Library &/or choose toys to borrow with a Play Passport Subscription.

Please join Mary Wilson, educator, and professional puppeteer, for a workshop on puppets that is designed to stimulate oral and written language, storytelling, performance skills, problem solving, and self-expression. Learn puppetry techniques and how to incorporate them in your teaching within the Social Emotional Standards. Instruction will include puppetry mechanics, review of adaptations for diverse learners, and outcome measurement tools.

This training will leave you inspired to include puppets in your work. This workshop is also beneficial for children’s librarians and connecting early childhood SEL literature to puppets.

Join us for this fun and educational program!

Participants in this program will be expected to:

·       Gain an understanding of children’s developmental levels and abilities with relation to the use of puppetry.

·       Learn skills to include puppets in the classroom to support teaching within the ELA Curriculum Frameworks and the Social Emotional Standards

·       Learn ways of using puppets to promote phonemic awareness, language acquisition, storytelling, problem solving and self -expression.

·       Learn ways to use puppets with diverse learners.

Participants will receive a certificate for 2 contact hours.
